Let There Be Light!
We’ve got some simple solutions for brightening up your bathroom without sacrificing your privacy. If natural light simply can’t make it to the party, soak up some of our handy hacks that will add light to any bathroom.
Bathrooms often get a bad wrap as the dreary, bacteria bound areas of the house. A bathroom that lacks natural light is usually the culprit. While we’d love to simply let the natural light in, we’d like to do so without letting unfamiliar eyes in too.
We’ve got some simple solutions for brightening up your bathroom without sacrificing your privacy. If natural light simply can’t make it to the party, soak up some of our handy hacks that will add light to any bathroom.
Windows
While we’d love to simply recommend opening a window, doing so can often jeopardise your privacy. If you’re able to include a window in your renovation, consider using frosted or obscure glass for added privacy. If you’d like to optimise natural light and airflow, blinds or louvers will allow you to achieve both, without completely exposing the room.
Skylights
If a window isn’t structurally possible, look up for the answer! A skylight will let in far more light than a window, and also reduces shadows and glare. It’s a cost effective way to completely transform the lighting situation in your bathroom.
Set the Tone
Set your palette to light and luminous!
Opt for light colours or pastel shades, and avoid dark coloured walls altogether! If you’d like to incorporate bold colours into your bathroom’s décor, save it for accents. If you’re hoping to add a little warmth to the room, try using colours that don’t absorb natural light like yellow, coral and turquoise.
If colours just won’t cooperate with your design endeavours, white is the perfect option. White décor reflects light, creates the illusion of space and will work with just about any theme. It’ll give you the freedom to explore while maximising light.
Show Off Your Surfaces
Let light bounce off as many surfaces as possible!
Adding a variety of reflective surfaces to your bathroom can certainly help with achieving a lighter and brighter bathroom.
Incorporate reflective tapware like the Eva Basin Mixer II in polished chrome, or large, curved tapware like the Water Fall Curved Bath Spout.
What about mirrors? It’s no secret that mirrors are king when it comes to reflection, but how can you use them to their full advantage? Place a mirror on a wall that’s adjacent to the window in your bathroom and it will evenly reflect sunlight throughout the room. If you have the space, opt for a large mirror like the Bevelled Edged Mirror 1500 and enjoy a bright, and seemingly more spacious bathroom.
Plan your tactics towards lighting so you can achieve a beautiful balance for your bathroom. Optimising natural light is the best way to bring your bathroom to life.
