Deep Clean Your Bathroom – Tips & Tricks
Keeping your bathroom clean can be an ongoing mission, however, it doesn’t have to be. Forget the constant discovery of mould, the lingering smell, and the feared reaction of your guests as they wipe their hands on the questionable hand towel.
It’s time to turn things around with a few handy tips and tricks for deep cleaning your bathroom. Make your bathroom spotless, keep it fresher for longer, and let it shine like every other room in the house!
The Best Tools
1. An old toothbrush
Nothing cleans grout quite like a trusty old toothbrush! It does an excellent job of getting into the tight spots between our teeth, so it’s no surprise it has the power to clean spots we’d written off as forever dirty. A toothbrush clean will prevent irreversible damage from build-ups, and will easily remove mould from grout. Plus, it’s the best tool for deep cleaning your bathroom tiles.
2. A long-reach scrubber
If you’re giving the bathroom a serious clean, you want to hit all corners of the room. A long-reach scrubber is perfect for reaching spots that have suffered from moisture, dirt, or dust over time. For the rest of the bathroom, find yourself a small scrubber with stiff bristles and a comfortable grip.
3. A microfiber cloth
No water or chemicals required! Having a microfiber cloth handy is perfect for giving benches, basins and mirrors a quick wipe down. Silver is woven into the fibres which creates a natural antibacterial property. This means you don’t have to change cloths as regularly, and you can avoid using mountains of paper towel.
4. A squeegee
Don’t let moisture undo all your hard work! Hang a squeegee in the shower and take an extra 30 seconds after showering to clear any excess water on the screens. Not only will you find yourself needing to clean the shower screens far less, but you’ll also help to delay the growth of mould throughout the bathroom.
The Best Cleaners
1. Jif
Jif cleaning products are rated incredibly highly in Australia, and it’s no surprise they’re one of our best friends in the bathroom when it comes to cleaning. Jif produce a number of products that work like a charm to remove soap scum, mould and dirt. Keep a bottle handy for your deep clean day!
2. CLR Multi-purpose cleaner
CLR is a powerful cleaner that removes calcium, lime, and rust from surfaces including the shower head. The bacterial build-up on showerheads can be nasty, so be sure to include it in your deep clean. Either remove the showerhead and soak it, or simply fill a plastic bag with CLR and water, then attach the bag to the showerhead with a rubber band. Let it work its magic for at least an hour before unveiling a shower head that’s as good as new.
3. Automatic toilet bowl cleaners
It’s as simple as attaching a gel applicator to the inside of the toilet bowl, and letting it do the cleaning for you. While an automatic bowl cleaner doesn’t take the place of a trusty toilet brush and some elbow grease, it’ll keep your toilet incredibly fresh between cleans.
4. DIY deodoriser
If you’re not into making homemade potions with a bunch of essential oils, grab a handful of coffee! Fill a small bowl with fresh, ground coffee and leave it in the bathroom. It’s the best way to absorb odours without having to douse the room in vanilla scented toilet spray.
How to Tackle the Job
